Cute robot flying a kite.
Part of my Robot Enlightenment series of automata (a series of 26 named automata about a tiny robot trying to find happiness). This one is called “Playing”.
Made of solid cedar, hickory and other hardwoods with spring piano wire for the kite string. Finished in natural (skin & food safe) linseed oil that brings out the natural colors of the wood.
The wood that the robot is made of varies depending on what I have in my shop at the time (I get my wood supply as offcuts from a nearby cabinet shop). The base is generally cedar and most of the robots are made of maple. The kite is purple heart and red padauk.
These are heirloom quality art pieces that are not suitable for infants or toddlers because of the small parts that could be a choking hazard (and a potentially sharp metal components).
